Jane Morley, QC
By profession I am a lawyer. I practiced as a civil litigator in Victoria for over 20 years in the areas of labour and employment, personal injury and family law. I continue to have a strong sense of justice and an analytical, problem-solving approach to my work.
By inclination I am a mediator. Following this inclination, I shifted my law practice in the 1990s from litigation to mediation and arbitration. Since then I have mediated and arbitrated all kinds of disputes, including family, collective agreement, employment, sexual misconduct, Institutional abuse, personal injury, and public interest disputes. As a mediator, I act as a bridge to develop trust between people and assist them to engage constructively in their conflict to achieve their goals.
By calling, I’m a leader of organizational and social change, especially in the areas of reconciliation with Aboriginal peoples and justice reform. In 2008 and 2009 I was a Commissioner on Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission and worked on the development of a national restorative justice process to address Canada’s legacy of broken relationships resulting from the Indian Residential School experience.
For the last several years, I have worked with Access to Justice BC (A2JBC), a network of justice sector leaders, and am currently responsible for developing an A2JBC-led, cross sectoral Transform the Justice System (TFJS) Collaborative.
